Tasty Tuesday ~~ Cheaters' Delight!

Before we get down to cookin' "bidness," I wanna give a shout out to our beloved Louisiana potato chip maker -- Zapp's! You haven't eaten a real chip until you've tried one of these. There's tons of flavor choices for the Cajun in you.

Spicy Cajun Crawtator
Lighted Salted Sweet Potato
and Voodoo Gumbo

Ca c'est bon!!

Sometimes we all need a shortcut or two, right? Right. Today I'm sharing one of my favorites with you. You know how much I love simple, easy and good. This "recipe" fits the bill AND is made all in one pan, making clean-up a breeze. It also gives you a few dishwasher safe containers to reuse later.

Cheaters' Delight is way better than a "time saver" too; it's a "time giver." It actually adds a couple hours to your day. :)

Not possible, you say? Well, check this out...

Cheaters' Delight

  1. Go to your nearest favorite Chinese restaurant. (I guess it's politically incorrect to say Takee Outee, any longer?) *grin*
  2. Order a large lo mein noodle with veggies, plus an order of mushrooms and beef.
  3. Once home, combine both items in a large pan. If you have leftover baked or broiled chicken, beef or pork in your 'fridge, cube it and add to the pan.
  4. Simmer covered on low until warm through and through.
  5. Serve, eat, enjoy.
Serves 6-8 [Easy to convert to vegetarian dish by adding more veggies and taking out the meat! I used leftover pork chops in tonight's version.]

I like those chips but what I really miss is Blackened Voodoo Dixie Beer.

Now that sounds - and looks - like a really good meal. Yum!

And Lighted Salted Sweet Potato would make me soooo happy!

Travis - Try this: http://abita.com/brews/ ;)

Marisa - Yeah...my favorite chips EVER! Dangerously addictive, so I usually don't buy them...but they were on sale 3 for $5. LOL

Ah, yes. Blackened Voodood. One of the darkest, blackest beers I've ever tasted. I still have my bottlecap from when I drank one in New Orleans!

That dish looks SO good...

That sounds good!
And at our house, take out is "Ten Minutes!" (No matter what we order, it's always "Ten Minutes.")

Yup that sure is cheating but it sounds delicious.

When I first looked at the photo of the Zapp's I wondered what "Voodo Gum" was. Does someone stick pins in it when you blow bubbles? Then I read that it's gumbo, and that dumb thought bubble popped.

That works!

Really was delish, Melissa. And cheap too -- the whole pot for under $15.00! When ya coming back to New Orleans? :)

Alex - LOL. Same here!

LOL on the voodoo gum, Hilary. :)

lakeviewer - Yes ma'am. Right nicely. (And the fam. said it was delicious...to which I replied, "Well, thank you," without mentioning I hadn't cooked it from scratch. *wink*

Oh, good idea! But do we have to tell that we "bought it?" I haven't tried those chips. Gumbo...hummmm?

What a grand idea and a great jump on perparing a meal! I've always said God didn't know what he was doing when he required that humans need fuel... with all the time it takes to full our bodies with food, it's a shame when we could be using that time for more interesting endeavors.

GMR was SOOOOO happy when we found the fruit/veggie stand here in Western North Carolina that had Zapps tater chips! turns out the owner of it is from South Louisiana! He usually has a pot of gumbo cookin' or some jambalaya!

Angie Ledbetter said...

No ma'am, Karen, you don't have to tell that secret. Who'd know when it's served out of your own pan? ;)

Jane - That's what poptarts and oatmeal and crackers and granola bars are for...eating over your computer. hehe.

Kat - I'm so glad GMR can get him a Louisiana fix whenever he needs one!

Now I want those chips! I think I was really meant to live there because I do love me some spice.
