Christmas Tree Contest!

"O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,Your branches green delight us." Remember that song? The original version is German -- "O Tannenbaum" -- and used to be one of the most popular holiday carols.

I wish I had some blue spruce or Frasier fir spray to spritz right now, sorta like smell-a-vision, to put you in the mood, but we'll just pretend we can smell Christmas all around us as we gaze at these lovely contest entries. There are a variety of trees (and other things) being represented in this year's pageant, but they all give us Christmas spirit, no matter if they're traditional or not. I just love the pencil cactus "tree" at my poetry professor's house {pictured above}.

Even the local weather is cooperating! The weathermen are reporting we may get snow and/or sleet tonight!! No biggie, you say? Well, it certainly is if you live in south Louisiana! Any kind of snow (or sometimes the mere threat) is enough to clear the interstates and cancel school. The last time we had a thin covering of snow was around 1989, and the vast majority of us Cajuns who chose or were forced to be on the roads, most likely ended up in a ditch. See...we can drive in rain, torrential storms, tornadoes and even hurricanes...but not in snow of any sort. Ah, every culture needs a downfall. *grin* Okay, enough of all dat, and on wit da show.

About the contest:

  • Please vote in the comments section. Yap all you want to, feel free to oooh and ahhh, but be sure to put a NUMBER down as your selection.

  • One vote per customer, please, but your blog friends are most welcome to come by and help plump the count for you.
  • I'll announce the winner of the lovely Cajun ornament and contact you asap, then I'll get ya to send me your snail mail info.
  • I'm afeared I left somebody out of the contest, so if you sent me an entry, please let me know I messed up, and I'll add you in pronto (with two bonus votes for my stoopidity).

Ready? Here they are, in no particular order:

3. Janna's:

Suldog's got so much spirit, he's got two entries! #5:

and #6 (not in any way, shape or form a tree, but makes me smile, so that's good enough in my book!):

7. Kimmi's Christmas Barn:

8. Joyce's:

9. Amy's since-I'm-Jewish-and-such-a-good-sport-I'm-submitting-my-Christmas-story-that-was-published-in-the-Chicago-Trib as an entry!

10. And Jill's (whose entry I forgot to include early on, and who has more shots of her fab tree if you click on her name!):

Finally, Gumbo Writer has a Pretty in Pink version this year, but is not entering her own contest, and just wanted to share the beauty. Miz Pink got two hot pink feather boas added to her branches this year too. Ain't she purty? ~~

OOOOO, Y'ALL, IT'S SNOWING HERE IN BATON ROUGE RIGHT NOW! WE GET THE WHITE STUFF ABOUT ONCE EVERY TWO DECADES!!!

LOL, Janna! It's a beaut.

Giddy, you're an expert since you put up THREE trees yourself each year. :)

Thank you, Terri. Got your vote down.

Morgan, thanks for stopping in and voting. I'll come by your place shortly. (Need more java and a few more sneaux pics!)

I vote #1 cause I'm a sucker for shiny lights.

I give 1/2 a vote for mine, since there's only 1/2 a picture. Where did the other 1/2 go? : )

I love the creativity (and the fruitcake) of #5.

Since my number 8 was a pre-decorated tree out of a Costco box...because I'm lazy, I know it won't win. I entered it to represent the segment of holiday decorating known as EASY.

I vote for #1, Melissa's, because it is so beautiful. I didn't know we could enter barns. I don't have one but I could have photographed my Black Hills Spruce in the back yard. Darn!

M. Bail said...

Hi! I'm voting for #3. I totally and completely forgot to enter mine (boo hoo). Well, maybe next year! They're all so pretty!

Melissa Amateis said...

I can't vote for myself - I would feel really bad! So I vote for Janna's, #3. :-)

And I am so jealous that you're getting snow in LOUISIANA and here in Nebraska we have NOTHING!!!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Thanks for voting, Travis. Y'all getting snow in Texas?

Carrie, I guess the cyber monkeys ate it! But you still get a whole point. :)

Aww, mlh/Michelle, how sweet of you not to even vote for your own!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Oh, no, Jill! Did you send it to me??? I'll put it up now!

Thanks, Karen. Tallying your vote.

LOL, JyLnC. I LOVE your easy breezy tree.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Thanks much, Embee!

And you too, Melissa. Can't resist since the opportunity to brag on snow is so rare...Nanner Nanner Boo Boo! :)

Jane! said...

Holy cow! Snow in Baton Rouge???

I have to tell you that all those trees make me feel woefully inadequate since my tree is still sitting in a bucket in the carport.
I'm going to have to go with #6. That one really speaks to me in a 'Jane, even you could do that.' sort of way.

Angie Ledbetter said...

I know, Jane! It's so mighty!! And LOL on your vote.

Jessica Nelson said...

This is difficult. I'll go with #1 just because I like the lighting and atmosphere. It looks kind of like a magazine cover.
Great trees everyone!

tut-tut said...

Contest now?! My tree isn't even bought, much less up!

All these look good; I like the snow scene.

I have renominated and/or given honorable mention to you with an award. Check out my blogspot. You do not have to nominate again, if you have already participated. Thanks for such a wonderful blogspot to us all.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Thanks, Jessica, and you too, Tut-tut!

Aww, Ang, you are too sweet. Thank you.

Suldog said...

As much as I like my own Pointy Poinsettia tree, I'm torn between two of the others. Can I give a half-vote to each? Melissa and Jill.

(If I can only have one vote, I'll give it to Jill, since she had her photo posted late and may have lost some consideration due to that.)

Angie Ledbetter said...

Sul, I dearly loved your pointy poinsettia story and recommend it to everyone. Talk about give you some Christmas spirit.

And since you're such a kindly gentleman, rescuing wayward fruitcakes and all, you can have two votes. :)

BiPolar Wife said...

I'm voting for #3 for several reasons. First of all, I know Janna. Secondly, I adore Janna. Thirdly, three is my fav number in that I have three fab kids.

Barb Davis said...

I love #1...put my vote on it, please.

I place my vote for Number 1. All were great pics. Good luck everyone.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Michaéle, got it! #3 it is. (I've got 3 kidlets too.) :) So glad you dropped by.

Thanks, Barb & Ang.

Put the vote on #4. People actually drove pretty good today. Was on the road all day, started early and was wet all day.
Pretty good really. Lots of smiles everywhere.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Thanks for casting your ballot, Oren. Glad you were safe on the roads today! (Drop by and see your Scouters' snow-people in the front yard if ya get a chance. One of em has nothing on but a bra!) Kids!!!!!!!!!!!

Aw, crap, dude...I suck! I forgot to send my tree! Ah, well...it wouldn't have won against all these beauties anyway! My vote is for Melissa...I heart it.

Angie Ledbetter said...
