SO funny! And not...

Sometimes I read an old story. A classic from another time, and I feel like I could tell it differently, and all of a sudden, I'm off and writing! Flea Markets are great for this. Old post cards, letters, scrap books. They whisper new work in my head.

Taking a walk. That helps too!

These days my muse seems to be meeting me in yoga class. I can almost always find her, too, outside in nature. Where is yours hiding?

Janna Leadbetter said...

Well, I quite like this. I may have to bum the idea. ;)

Lynnette - Desperate times, desperate measures? :D

Great suggestions one and all, Suzanne.

Deb - There's a bonus to hard sweaty work! Mine waits for me in the rare silences of my life. And at my lake house.

DO, Janna. :D

Angie,
At first I thought I don't have a muse. Then I thought of the short story I wrote. It was inspired by a blogger. She is a mom of two and writes about her family. When I went to write a story I saw her profile pic in my head and then the story wrote itself.

At other times I don't know where the ideas come from.

My Muse has his own music that I use to invoke him. Maybe some thematic tunes would bring yours around.

Analisa - Sounds like your muse likes the visual, so people watching ought to fire her/you up and give you plenty of writing fodder. :)

The Writer - How cool is that? I'll have to give the music a try.

I wait for a knock on the door of my mind!

The way that ALWAYS works and I'm not being silly or snarky, it's just true for me: I open the doc and put my fingers to keys and once I've done that, I'm there.....but, I have to actually open that doc.....and put fingers to keys - both of those things have to happen

PS - thank you for all the well-wishes sent my way from your peeps *smiling*

Great ideas. I make contact by watching and listening to the silence around me.

Oh, right before bed my little muse shows up- she's naughty like that! She won't let me rest!
;)

My muse can be bribed with Hot Tamales, long bicycle rides on a winding country road and access to an old upright piano. Most of the time all I have to do is show up! The muse doesn't seem to mind that I wear a favorite sweatshirt, drink coffee excessively and talk out loud when I'm writing. If only the others in the house would agree to that!

Yes. I just blogged about this too. And that writing gibberish hint did the trick. Not that playing hooky isn't a great way to go, too. Read a few books, some old favorites. Let the words wash over you until you're friends again.
Good Luck!

When my booty hits the seat and my laptop opens, the muse knows it's time to play. ;-)

Did it work? Did she come?? ;o)

I pray. And I give up trying to get the muse to come to my party.

Karen said...

I exit the house and go sit on a beach bench and watch or walk around with my camera, for unexpected tiny details of nature... and also pray, like Jeanette...I need all the help I can get.:)

I made contact last night in a brain storming session with my Other Half. He took notes and made suggestions while I babbled on. That was the good part. OH set the book down and while our heads were turned--one of the dogs ripped the page out--AND ATE IT!

Falling asleep...
My muse is full of surprises and can strike at any moment. The problem is that it's usually at an inconvenient moment.

Jinksy - "Knock, knock. Is the poetry lady home?" :)

Kathryn, I often feel the same urge, after stuff floats around in my head (especially poetry...if only there was a little QUIET in the house and/or some sort of decent schedule. Glad you're feeling better!

Char - Silence truly is golden, eh? Guess which color does NOT reign in my house? :P

Red Bird poetry penner, I get the same thing sometimes. Must be something about the mind getting into a better, floaty zone.

Love the tamale bait, Stacy. :D Our homes must be very similar. But I've trained the three kidlets (all teens now) to never mind what I'm doing. Wearing costumes to their high school for lunch, etc. has broken them of many bad habits. :)

jd - great tips. Thanks!

Well Jessica, I know who's the boss in Y'ALLS' relationship. LOL

Amy - My muse is pretty good about showing up whenever I ask. :)

Hear ya Jeannette. "Muse" is just a term I use for writing productivity more than anything else.

Karen - Nature's so generous about giving inspiration!!

Are you telling me the dawg ate your homework, Strange Fiction? hehe

Dorothy, that happens a lot to me too, so I make sure I'm never without pen and paper!

I slowly walk into my classroom and BAM!

There it is. You are more than welcome to join us.

I stare. After a time, she gets bored and strikes up a conversation with me. ;)

I love this post.

My muse is slippery.

People watching. But, can I ever relate!

I think I need a notebook like that.

Kasie West said...

LOL That's how I feel a lot. :) Mostly, I just start the party without him. Sometimes he comes, sometimes he doesn't.

Laura Martone said...

I like your notebook page, Angie. Hey, whatever works, right?

My muse is ever-present - I get inspiration from nature, my hubby, my kitty, favorite movies and books, any song sung by Willie Nelson, any rememberance from my childhood or previous travels... Writing isn't the problem - what I need is a revision muse!
