Politically Incorrect Cartoon & A Recipe

"I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline. Got a call center in Pakistan. Told them I was suicidal. They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck." {Thanks for the email forward, Trudy!}

Coffee
factoid of the week: If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
Now, from Gumbo Writer to you via friend Oren, here's the promised recipe! *Oren's disclaimers: "Here is the White Chocolate Bread Pudding stuff. It is from Palace Cafe' in N.O. I have just about got it adapted for the dutch oven. [Not a healthy recipe.] Enjoy."*

WHITE CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING

4 oz. French bread (I use hot dog or hamburger buns. Seems to do ok.)
1 ½ cups Half & Half
½ cup heavy cream or whipping cream
1 whole egg
4 egg yolks
¼ cup sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
4 ounces white chocolate, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter custard cups or baking dish. Cut trimmed bread into chunks. Place on baking sheet and bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

Heat Half & Half and cream over low heat until hot but not boiling. Beat together the egg, yolks, and sugar. Off heat, whisk a few tablespoons of the cream mixture into the egg mixture to warm it. Whisk eggs into the cream, and then stir in the vanilla.

Scrape melted chocolate into cream mixture and whisk into it. It will blend after a few minutes.

Line baking dish or cups with bread. Pour custard into dish and let bread absorb it. Place dish in an ovenproof pan large enough to hold it comfortably. Surround dish with boiling water and bake until set; when a knife inserted comes out clean. This should take about 35–40 minutes. Should be served warm.

White Chocolate Sauce
¾ cup heavy cream
4 ounces white chocolate – melted

Heat cream until almost boiling. Whisk it into the melted chocolate until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Hey, maybe if Garfield had a serving of Oren's bread pudding, he (Garfield) wouldn't be quite so grumpy in the morning. *grin*

Since today's post began with a cute animal-related item, here's one to finish with. The writer in me is coming up with some crazy captions! Can you think of one?

The recipe sounds awesome! And I just got my mom a dutch oven, so I'll have to pass on the recipe and ask her to make some. ;)

Great picture, and I love Lori's captions. LOL!

You know - I guess I am a mountain woman instead of a Looseeaner woman (even tho I was in BR for more than thirty years) - I don't like chickory coffee - I don't really like CC in the red bag and I don't like bread pudding and I don't eat pork and i don't eat much meat and I don't really like boiled crawfish! omg! omg!

laughing

As to the boy - is that on AFV? I swear - I swear!

caption: Hmm, tastes like chicken.(both of them saying that? I don't know!)

Hey, that's cool where you have "rockin blogs" and it shows a part of the post, etc...how'd you do that? I bet MSN won't do that -- pooh....

Wow - that recipe sounds wicked good! A must try!

LOL, Lori. I l.o.v.e. your captions!

Good one, Terri. Hope your day is great too.

Now, Janna, you're one smart cookie. Forward the recipe to Mom and get her to make ya up a batch. ;)

I'm gonna have to try it myself, Janine. Oren's got my stomach growling like the pig in the photo.

Avid, if you kiss a pig, the recipe becomes zero-cal, sugar-free! *Did I forget to mention that?* LOL

Afronuts, thanks so much for stopping by to visit, and hope you'll be back. (Going check out your blog shortly.)

Even with all your shortcomings and unfaithfulness to our Cajun custums, I still love ya, Kat. LOL. As for the blog roll, not sure if MSN has it. Worth checking out.

Lemme know how it is if you make it, Wendy. Makes my tongue sweat just looking at the ingredients.

First things first...Kat-Mag doesn't like crawfish and you "allow" her to post comments?!!! Okay, she does seem sweet...we'll let her slide. I am with her on your rockin' blogs section...would love to know how to do that!! Can't wait to try Oren's succulent looking dessert! And as for the caption..."The spell has been cast once you kiss/lick your first pig. A preview of things to come. Lickin' pigs and kissin' toads...tryin' to find Prince Charmin'" BACK AWAY FROM THE PIG LITTLE PRINCESS!!

Okay that joke might be PI but it is dang funny as well.

Are you trying to get us to start packing on the holiday pounds early or what....heavy cream, half & half, and white chocolate in one recipe...yikes. It sounds really, really yummy though.

Rachel, thanks for stopping by, and I agree.

I wondered the same thing about the kidlet in the picture, Candy. ;)

LOL and thanks for the advice to future princesses, PW (aka the Karma Commish).

*Grin* to Travis. It made me laugh too.

Hey, Melissa, and thanks for visiting!

Kasie, you found me out. I'm guilty. I've got extra poundage, so y'all might as well have some too. Pre-holiday recipe looks great, hunh?

Nana, I like your caption. Here's another: "A love affair made in pig heaven?" ;)

"This kid tastes like throw-up. Hope the bread pudding comes out better."
Thanks for the mention. It is really good outside on a cool evening around a campfire. Puts the kids to sleep.

Oren, I love your caption, and thanks again for sending the recipe. Any food that puts kids to sleep can't be all bad.

After reading this post, I must say that I am finding it hard to believe that people find this suicide bombing joke funny. or should I say hilarious.

Have we learned nothing after 9/11?

Angie Ledbetter said...

Anony, it wasn't a statement of political ideology, just a j.o.k.e. We all need to lighten up and laugh sometimes. Have a great day!

Loved the beginning joke ... too funny! I believe I gained weight reading that recipe! :) For the caption: how about ... "Porky" and Bess.

As always ... enjoy your blog!
