I've Been Tagged, and It's Not Even Hunting Season!

Alyssa Goodnight http://alyssagoodnight.blogspot.com/ tagged me to complete the quasi-book/writing-related challenge described below, so here goes:

Having calmed considerably, Olm pulled his truck over to the side of the road and stared out at the bayou that ran parallel to the road. Down those murky waters, through the sloughs and channels, across the flats, down into the darkest parts of the Atchafalaya, where the cypress trees grew so thick their branches seemed conjoined, sat his two aces -- in the hole. He considered the wild game, snakes, and alligators that populated the swamp. There was always the chance the children might wind up as a meal before the ceremony time. [From friend Deborah LeBlanc's just- released book, Water Witch, Dorchester Publishing.]

The rules are as follows: Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal/blog along with these instructions. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the closest. Tag five other people to do the same.
Hmm, who am I gonna tag from randomly scrolling through my Rockin' Blog roll?

Travis

Joanne

Terri
Jim (Suldog)

Now, wasn't that more fun than a barrel of monkeys? And what are YOU reading right now?

Haw! At first I thought someone had said they wrote that and I was going to say "HEY! I KNOW that's from Deb's book ...." then I read on and said, "oh, okay good,..." laughing...

I just reached behind me and picked up Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio, turned to the page, and counted down, but didn't feel like copying it because I'm drinking Deep Creek Blend cofee, watching an GORGEOUS Mountain SUnrise and the sun rises over the ridge, and besides, I wasn't a victim, um er, I mean, blog person mentioned as a victim, I mean, anyway...um, I got out of this one HAW HAW....

LOL, Kat! Your mountain view trumps mine, but at least I have coffee. (__)?

ok--I knew this would be hard! I'm reading Karen Kinsbury's newest book Between Sundays. I'm a rule breaker so I'm posting the sentences here.(Do I still get credit?)
She was a snake, and Aaron should've seen through her. BUt it didn't matter now. The incident was behind him.

Terri, you get EXTRA credit for responding first and for breaking the rules.

Thanks for the tag, but must kindly bow out, current writing project calls for much of my time! However, am reading Alice Hoffman, The Ice Queen.

Fun, Angie! And I like that you tagged with the bloggers' pictures. I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference. ;)

Joanne, writing work always trumps fun & games!

Thanks, Janna. I love new and different, but was hoping the pics would link back to the websites. ;( Oh, to be techy savvy.

I love that paragraph - very vivid! I'm reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and a new WW2 thriller by Joel N. Ross called White Flag Down.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Tut, that sounds fabulous! You gonna post a recipe from it?

You've got a really varied reading list there, Melissa. Both sound interesting.

A barrel of monkeys may or may not be fun. I'm reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult.

Oh, Lord, Angie. Let's see... What jokes could I make?

"56 pages? Durn! All my comic books only have 48!"

"Ummmmm. When I open what I've been reading, the only thing on page 56 is a naked woman. Should I post the next 2 to 5 naked women?"

And so on...

I'll probably post later this week. Thanks for thinking of me!

Right now I'm actually reading Star Trek: The Lost Years, about what happened after the Enterprise came home from its five year mission, and a western by Will Henry called "Showdown at Yankee flat." Plus a nonfiction book on evolution and a short story collection called Alternate generals.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Colby, I never thought about it, but you're right.

LOL, Sul. All good answers.

Ah, now, bad words about Self, who's supposed to be the Karma Commish!

Ooo, Charles, I'm afraid we won't be trading used books, as none of the ones you're reading sound interesting to me. hehe Thanks for dropping by from the home of great beer!

Page 56 of my book has an ad for a hunting outfitter in Wyoming. Oh well, guess I can't play here either.
PW,
Sure, but talk slow. You know how some of us southern guys are.

Mine will be up later tonight. And I have met Deborah Leblanc a few times.

She taught at our local writer's conference here in Amarillo.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Travis, isn't she great?! Deb's a member of my writing group and a very special person.
