Wednesday Writings - A Gathering of Goodies

Hope your Wednesday is going well and fine, and that you enjoy these writerly nuggets mined from this beautiful thing called the Blogosphere.

If you left comments for my twin on her yummy cornbread recipe yesterday, be sure to click back over to read her comments! Her sassy evil commentary made me laugh like a lunatic. [And just look at how innocent she looked way back then. The bonneted baby on the left...]

In honor of fall's arrival, I'm in the mood for another contest, so come back by Monday to get the scoop! Now...on with the show...

@@@

There are good words to heed on the art of the writer's blog from Jessica Faust of the BookEnds literary agency. Post comments are full for more tippage too.

Diane Buccheri, Publisher of OCEAN Magazine is running her first ever writing contest. OCEAN has been around since 2004 and is a lovely publication dedicated to the protection of our ocean environments. Check out the contest (submission form below description). Thanks for the heads up, Kat!

Did you know you can have your characters analyzed by a professional? Surf over to Jeannie Campbell's cool cool blog, Character Therapist. She's got free couch time available for your MCs. Some description from her blog's "header" (get it? header? head shrinker? okay, never mind.):

Got questions about your fictional characters? Plot feasibility? Email me...with a character sketch and I'll post your fictional character's assessment on my blog.

@@@

Think your story or novel begins at exactly the right place? Find out for sure by reading editor Nannette Croce's post on the subject. And if you're in need of an excellent set of eyeballs to look over your work, check out her editing service.

Tons of great writing contests listed by deadline date at Poets & Writers.

If your writing flows like cold syrup in winter, read Harvey Stanbrough's post today on getting your words to move more smoothly.

PSA on Blogging: Please consider if you realllly need the Word Verification function enabled at your blog. Old eyes like mine really hate the squinched up non-word secret password they have to decode in order to leave a comment. And if you don't have your email attached to your blogging profile, how come? It's fun to comment directly to your comments via good ol' email. Two words: user friendly. Just sayin'.

@@@

That's all for now. Tune in tomorrow for an updated listing of online artists/artisans who'd love some of your holiday shopping business.

Thanks Lynnette. 'Preciate you! :)

You're welcome Jody. I got the twitter button from some web designer guy who had freebies at his site. Can't remember where though. (Typical.) LOL

You are a pool of great information this morning. I scribbled down all these wonderful tips/links for closer review.

I can't wait to send my MC over to Jeannie! Or maybe it's me that needs the couch session!

I would love to learn how to answer via e-mail...

Thanks for the links! I hope I have time later to check them out. :-)

Aw, you're dolls! Absolute dolls.

Thanks for the links.

And I'm sorry. I do the WV. If I don't have it, I get midnight spammings in droves. Ugh!

I was getting some awful spam and had to put it back on!! HATE it too--maybe I'll take it off and try again. thanks for the links!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Tamika - glad you found the linkage helpful. (Hey, maybe you can pretend you are one of your characters to get some couch time.) LOL

Jessica - I emailed ya some instructional stuff. :)

Weird on the spammers, Janna! I've had about two spammish comments in over a year. But I love ya anyway and will continue to visit your kewl blawg!

Welcome Terri. I wonder why I don't get weird spam? Maybe the AV critter trappers are working well. hehe

Uh, been meanin' to take the word verification off my blog and my email? Been meanin' to take care of that too. Thanks for the reminders. What would I do without my pal Angie to give me the prompt I need? :0)

Robyn Campbell said...

Hey Angie! I did the deed. I hope. Guess we shall see. The vc word is a thing of the past on my blog. I think...:)

Angie Ledbetter said...

Robyn - Yay, it worked! I emailed you when I got the comment. :)

Deb - You're welcome and LOL on the classroom.

Looking forward to some of these links. And I got rid of word verification on my blog last week. I can't stand it!

Have a good one!

Thanks for the great links. Hmm, if I write a Mary Sue, is that like getting free psychiatric advice? ;)

Deb said...

Adorable baby pic! Thanks for the links! Oh, and there's something over at my blog for u.

Elizabeth Bradley said...

Now, I'm not sure if I still have that pesky word verification popping up or not. I'll ditch it for you. I do enjoy your pithy e-mail responses to my comments. I love the pic of you and your twin. So darned cute. Why don't they put baby girls in bonnets anymore?

Angie Ledbetter said...

Yay Jill. You have a great weekend too!

Hmm, Tere, might be. :)

Thanks for the blingage Deb!

Elizabeth, thanks for the WV removal. :) And I'm joining the Bring Back Baby Bonnets (BBBB) club. Wanna be a member too?

That's awesome, can't wait to see what's wrong with my character's psyche.

Wonder what it says about me though?

Nice list! I'll add my recommendation of Jeannie Campbell's site. Lots of fun stuff going on over there! She even reviewed my new book this week. :)

What a darlin' picture! I can see the mischeviousness in your twins eyes already. snicker....

Marguerite said...

Merci beaucoup for the great links, sha! They all look so interesting and I will check them out.

Debbie said...

Amen and amen on the word verification and email. And can I throw in that I can't read anything on very dark or very busy backgrounds? Plus, what is with the latest trend that the comments are at the top of the post? I wish they wouldn't change things on me. I am OLD.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Karen - Me too! LOL

Marguerite - Hope they serve ya well. :)

Hear ya Debbie! Sometimes I just long to rock on the porch all day long.

I agree on the email. I can't count how many times I've written a lengthly response to someone only to see their address is "no reply."

Hint - you can set an email of for free and name it the site of your blog if you want to remain anon.

Thanks, Angie.

If my characters were analyzed, they would probably refer me for further counseling.

Such cute babies, BTW!

I'm going to check these out. Especially Nannette Croce––he he. No, really these look like great sites. Sorry about the word ver, but the time I turned mine off some sex kitten commented on all my blogs.
