With a Cherry on Top? [Better Blogging]

Please, please, please...pretty please with a cherry, whipped cream and nuts on top~~~

Would ya add your address to your blog profile?

Several times over the last couple of days, I've wanted to email someone who left a comment to tell them something personal, or ask a question, or just chat outside the blog's public forum. But guess what? I couldn't because there was no email address listed on the email that notified me of their comment on one of my posts.

I promise, it's not hard to do. Look, if I can do it, anybody can! You'll also be increasing your online presence and promoting blog love throughout the Blogland community. This is all you gotta do:

  • Sign on at your blog
  • Click "View My Complete Profile"
  • Several options are listed such as Photo, Edit Profile and Contact. Click Contact, then Email.
  • ADD YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HERE, Save, and voila!

In just a few seconds you have made yourself accessible to others whose blogs you leave comments on. You can email back and forth with them. And who knows, maybe an agent or editor will be impressed with how savvy you are AND how easy it is to reach you!

Welcome to the blogging forefront. You shall no longer be lumped with all those other anonymous unreachable noreply-comment@blogger.com people!

Now, I don't wanna push it since we've talked about this several times already...but while you're in there tinkering around with your blog settings and preferences, wontcha consider taking off that annoying little Word Verification function? I promise you, since I started this blog back in September, I've had exactly two spam comments...and all I had to do was go in and delete them with the little trashcan icon. *poof* they were dust.

Add your email and lose the Word Verification thingy and your bloggy friends will be eternally grateful. You might even get more comments, followers and/or traffic. Don't believe me? Just ask Debbie at Suburb Sanity and Vodka Mom at I Need A Martini Mom. Their blogs are so busy, ya gotta take a number to get in and comment. LOL

Now, go spread the word. And since it's Sunday, do something nice for somebody! (o:l>

I agree - those things irritate me because sometimes I have to do it two or three times - sometimes I give up!

I don't use it and I've not ZERO spam on my blog! And i've had no nasty comments - and if I ever did, it's easy to delete them.

Yay, lizspin!

Kat, thanks for joining the Halleluia Chorus!

Good ideas, Angie. I see that you've met my friends, Expat and Irish. Both good guys and writers. Stay cool and have a splendid Sunday!

Just the other day I was trying to figure out how I could work in asking people to take WF off their blogs. Somehow, it didn't fit into my rant on organ donation. However, it is a nightmare! I haven't ever had it and I think I have had 3 spam comments in almost a year. I do notice that the blogs that have it seem to have lower numbers of comments.
Thanks for the shout out. Any day that I am in the same sentence as Vodka Mom is a good day. Being at the same party as her would be even better:)

Just followed your ((very kind)) orders. Being new to this whole shebang, I appreciate the heads up!

I have tried emailing back to people when it said that and now I know why I never heard back!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Oren, love to all y'all too.

Same to you, Marguerite. I've been strolling around different blogs this morning, so it's been fun!

PHST, thanks. :)

The two of you together under one roof would be just too much, Debbie. *grin* Thanks for the back up on WV and email contact.

Kora, glad to help. It's the way of the Bloggy Universe. LOL

LOL, Terri. Ya made me choke on my coffee!!

Yes, it makes a difference to be able to share outside of the blog on email. G-mail accounts are so perfect for that, because if you have G-mail, you can automatically reply to comments via email. I don't know how in the world that works, but it's great!

that's me told & i'm happy to oblige ;)

Mimi, I agree. Thanks for dropping by. How'd you get those cute hearts on your sig line?

Hey, t i m! So glad you left Hermitville to come check in. Have a great week.

Good post Angie! I'm pretty sure I have my address in there, but not positive. Thanks for breaking it down. I took off my spam thingy too, but I'm pretty sure I had a spam comment even when it was up. LOL

Great advice! That word verification thing drives me crazy!

Amie said...

Alright . . . fine . . . I've added my email AND removed the word verification thingy. But I reserve the right to remove my email and make you type random strings of letters if I start getting stalkerish emails and/or comment spam!

Lady Glamis said...

Awesome! I agree with both of those. And I HATE word verifications. UGH!

Hilary said...

I agree with you about word verifications. They slow down the process and are rarely needed. But the address thing - that's different for me. I leave a lot of comments on the blogosphere and I usually click on the "subscribe by email" option so that I can read possible replies to my comments in my emailer.

I'm not really keen on generating more blog-related email than that. Sometimes there's something that absolutely needs to be said in a private mail, and for that, my address is on my blog's sidebar. But I'd find an influx of replies to my comments daunting on top of the follow ups that my "subscription" generates.

I have had it set before and found that the vast majority of email replies were simple one word acknowledgments or smilies. So I opt to keep my email address out of the area of my blog which you described. That's why I don't include mine. Sorry, Angie.

Adding my voice of agreement on both counts here. I hate the word verifications. H.A.T.E. them!
