Dorothy, I'm Melting!

I don't ever remember going this long in summer without rain. We're in week three now. *pant* The only folks enjoying this scorching heat spell and drought here in Baton Rouge are the A/C repair people.

So...how do you keep cool when temperatures rise? And for you writerly types, is summer conducive to working at your craft?

Like Dorothy, may you be surrounded by faithful friends, escape dangerous situations unscathed, and always find the home of your heart. Happy weekend!

Poor you. I wish you some rain soon.. and of course rainbows.

Temperature doesn't influence me. It's super hot here, even with rain in the afternoons, so I usually break out the water hose and kiddie pool. That helps a lot.
Stay safe in that hot weather.

We're just now starting to get the heat in Michigan. This past week has been our first really warm week all summer! So, I'm loving it! I think we got all of your rain a couple of weeks ago!

Ang...it looked like on the radar yesterday you got a good rain? Did it miss you?

We were in D4 drought for a long while, and then this spring - rain rain rain! Oh so much rain, and more to come...we needed it.

As for heat - well, we don't even HAVE ac in our little log house! nope - don't need it....this morning I have a longsleeved shirt on, for the morning cool - as it gets a bit warmer in the day, I love sitting on my porch and writing *grin* -yeah, sorry - low humidity here and even when it is hot, it is NOTHING like Louisiana sauna heat - come sit on my p'och and have a glass of something cold - it's mahvelous!

It is strange So Louisiana not getting much rain - I worry for the grand oaks.

Here in downtown Florida the heat indexes have been in the 100's for weeks. Thank God for the ocasional afternoon t-storm that dumps much needed rain.

As for chilling out, it's air condition everywhere except outside, so unless I'm in the pool, I'm inside drinking lots of water, fruit juice, ice tea and reading or writing.

Well, sorry you're not getting any rain. Evidently we're getting everything for you, here in Denver. It's been crimpin' my ability to ride my motorcycle dangit, since I try not to ride in the rain whenever possible. Well, maybe sometime soon our rain will hold off and make it to you.

When we had our record breaking temps last week, I stayed inside --all day or I would melt for sure! Now we are down in the 80's again and it is bearable. You must be getting our stuff.

Oh, it's been a scorcher here, too, Angie (south FL)- it was 97 degrees when we left for dinner at 6pm last night. And where is the rain? Whenever you would have such hot days, you could always count on a thunderstorm in the last afternoon...
I just stay indoors- I dislike the heat immensely. And yes, it is conducive for writing because I can't- or won't- do anything else!
;)
Stay cool, too, my friend.

I don't know HOW you stand it!

Rojo wore his LSU shirt all day yesterday for the Tigers!

Oh, how I wish I could send you some of our rain. It's been wet 22 of the last 25 days. I can't take it anymore!

Feel ya'. My yard is brown and my flowers are dead or dying. Bring on the rain!

It won't stop raining where I live!! But I love it. It hasn't rained this much in years. And it's been great because I've been indoors trying to stay dry, so lots of writing time. I'll try sending some of our rain your way.

Hilary, thanks so much. I'll be watching the sky!

Thanks, Jessica. Glad you can write the the heat. :)

Jody, give it back! LOL

We got exactly three drops, Carol, that evaporated right off my windshield in two seconds. The band of rain we wanted in BR split in two and went all around us. Argh!

Kat, wish I WAS on your porch! I worry about our old pawpaw oaks and other big trees too, as this rare drought has got to be making their roots brittle. :(

Sounds like you're beating the heat well, Donna. Yay!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Eric, hope the rain breaks so you can ride the wind! (Maybe we can put y'alls' weather and ours in a bag and shake 'em up together?) :)

At this point, 80's sound great, Terri.

Red Bird, I feel for you. The heat's unbelieveable!

Carrie, we're REAL thankful for our A/C. Yay for Rojo, that smart boy!

I guess we're all getting too much of one thing or another right now.

Mama Belle, we're steadily watering the grass and flowerbeds! *sweat sweat*

Thanks, B.J. and enjoy that wet! :)

I said to my husband yesterday that I wish it was cold and rainy so I wouldn't feel bad about staying inside and writing! We're heading "down the shore" as we say here in Philly, and I'm not going to write, damn it! (Of course, it may kill me, in which case, love to all...) It's our 26th wedding anniversary and I'm going to luxuriate in the space of my marriage.;-)

Go to New Orleans Original Daiquiris and buy yourself a frozen gallon, cher. Then you won't care about the heat! Happy Friday!

Conversely, we here in the Boston area haven't seen two days in a row of sun in about two weeks. It is dreary and dismal :-(

My mom in Daphne, AL is looking forward to the possibility of rain and temps "cooling down" to the mid-90s this weekend. Gak!

Oh, good questions! I hate summer for writing, really. I just want to be outside all the time. Winter seems to work better. Earlier bedtimes for the toddler, longer naps, and we're inside all the time.

I hate really hot weather. It's been a wet, cool June here. So it's been very nice. I'll try and send some rain your way!

Melissa Amateis said...

I hate summer. Hate. It. I don't like heat and I will go out of my way to stay indoors during scorching hot days. If I have to be out in it...well, I will be a grouch.

We've had lots of rain in Nebraska - more than all of last year combined so far!

For the week out of the year when it's too hot to breathe, our best solution is to sit in air-conditioned movies. Mostly, the sun is such a rare gift in the Pacific Northwest, when it does shine it's best not to waste a second of the time.

I had a brief respite in the Colorado mountains last week, but we are in our third week of 100+. And great drought. Sort of like my writing. Next week, I think. Next week, I WILL make some progress.

I've been watching your weather pattern. Yikes. So far we're not that warm, yet.

Yes, summer is conducive to my writing craft only when it's too hot outside and I have the A/C on. ;}

Schube, I hope your escape is a wonderful experience! Congrats on the anniversary.

LOL, Marguerite. Don't think I'd be a real good nurse to my mom if I was loopy. :)

Suldawg, I guess I'll keep my whiney pie hole shut then. *grin* (But I do hope y'all get some sunshine soon!)

We must have the same weatherman as your mom, Amie.

Lady G., thanks! It worked. We actually (finally) got a nice soaking this afternoon.

How's about sharing the wealth, Melissa? :)

Deb, that would make me grouchy and gloomy...well, grouchier and gloomier than I already am. LOL. Not really, jk.

Midlife, when it's that hot, it's hard to even want to move around much.

Dorothy! (How's Kansas? LOL) Glad you're getting something done.
