Flowerspeak

Do the wondrous things of nature ever speak to you? I'm no Dr. Doolittle of the plant world, but I often find myself drawn to the beauty of certain flowers and plants. Then there are birds, which I sometimes think are angelic messengers. When that inner voice nudges, I try to be still and listen, and am hardly ever disappointed.

My dad is fond of cacti, and I've never seen this one bloom even though he's had it for quite a while. Its vibrant color and glorious flowering says to me...

From mediocre, even drab beginnings, something breathtaking can come.

(See the plain black plastic pot in which the cactus is planted?) And this "flowerspeak" reminds me of myself and the potential adult beauty of my teenagers.

Sometimes when you put unlikely things together, magic happens.

And this thought brings to mind my friends from real life and Blogland because although there are three different kinds of cacti planted in one pot, somehow it works. They must be good for one another.

Even when you feel broken or incomplete, you are still capable of bringing beauty to others.

*If you look carefully at the leg of the cactus where the bloom originates, you'll see that it is withered and must've been damaged at some point. It's amazing to me it was still able to shoot out its splendor into the world.

What does this Mother Nature's baby in my flowerbed say to you?

Okay--so this was a hard post for me to think on. I must be up too early. I loved what you saw in yours but when I look at this flower, all I see it how pretty it it and that it sings of spring and nice weather. I could never be a poet.

Oh, you have two of my favorites there, Angie! Our cactus, just like your dad's, is in full bloom and loaded with blossoms.

Your baby says "Relax. All the rain is for a purpose." :)

I love how you wrote that we can be used even when damaged, at least that was one thing I got from this post...power in our weaknesses. What I see from the pink flower is openness...a complete willingness to let the sun come in.

Happy Friday!

LOL, Terri. It's great we can all look at the same object and see different things. :)

Lori, great thought.

Yes, Wendy, you got it right. Love your "openness" comparison! Hope you get plenty of light today. TGIF to you also.

I says I need to purchase that variety. My hibiscus is yellow, very sunny and upbeat, like so many of my friends. :-)

You know how I feel about "our" teens. The country is in good hands with them coming to the rescue. Not sure if everyone is ready for the honesty and bluntness that has started to blossom in them. Maybe we adults need to listen to them.
Yea, the future is bright.

Beautiful, Angie, simply beautiful. This reminds me I need to get to the nursery this weekend. I love flowers. I wish my husband would buy them for me more often... Then again, our cats would just eat them!

It's a beautiful post for today, Angie and a beauteous gift as well- our gardenias are exploding right now and their fragrance just fills the garden and our house!
And our hibiscus is just lovely too- I don't think we have any pink ones though- and I would like to put this one behind my ear!

Flowers just perk me up so much. I most enjoy spotting one in an unlikely place - like sprouting out of a rock when I'm hiking. I love my Christmas Cactus too and the fact that it knows when to bloom even though the house is the same temp all the time. Fascinating.

Loved the post, Angie. The cacti is beautiful. Reminds me: I need to get to the nursery to plant.

That cactus flower is breathtaking! I love that something so leggy and prickly can produce something so gorgeous. I'm also really envious that you have hibiscus. So cool!
