A Mess of Good Writing Stuff

Barbara is running a contest to win a really good poetry book, so go enter to win.

If you write for literary zines, ever wonder how to go about choosing the right ones to submit to from the vast number of publications? Check out Nannette's post over at Zine Writer. It's full of good information on just that. While there, click on the link in Nan's sidebar for a new short story, Zuni the Pueblo Dog. (Congrats, Nan. Enjoyed!)

At The Blood-Red Pencil, a post series called The Big Edits gives nifty pointers on manuscript editing. If you're struggling with that chore, it's a good read. There's also information in another post about working on your WIP in MS Word that's helpful.

Working on your synopsis? Surf over to literary agent Jessica Faust's blog, BookEnds for a nice posting on the dreaded S word.

Late-breaking linkage addition:
Check out Kimmi's guest blogger today, poet William Haskins and his thoughts on the value of poetry in hard economic times. Writer in Waiting Kimmi has had some fun posts lately -- different takes on the art of love just in time for Valentine's Day.

And from me to you: have you ever considered updating your blog profile to include your email address so folks can get in touch with you outside of posting a comment? If you haven't done so for fear of spam, I haven't gotten a single bombardment since starting my blog back in September. Either there's minimal risk, or I've got durn good spam filters.

If you haven't already, come by and enter my newest contest. You could be the lucky recipient of a mouth-watering Mardi Gras King Cake! (Scroll down beneath the lasagna recipe.)

Happy Wednesday, and write on!

Thanks for the helpful links and e-mail tip, Angie! I'm going to hop on over to The Big Edits and check out the ms editing tips.

And, I'm all about the cake, although you could send me the veggie lasagna as well and I wouldn't complain. I'll be entering the contest right about....NOW!

Great stuff! Thanks. And maybe I will add my e-mail address. Something to think about. Thanks again!

The email address on your profile is a good tip. I've tried to get a hold of people before and couldn't do much more than leave a comment on their blog and tell them to email me. :-)

Debra L., you're more than welcome for the good tippage. LOL on your magnanomity (did I spell that right?) on food gifts. :)

*Waving to Kathryn whose book will soon be out. Yay!*

Thanks, Janna and Melissa.

I've got nothing.

But I don't want to be rude and not leave a comment.

So ... how you doin'?

Angie Ledbetter said...

L.O.L., Bella. You gots plenty! I been to your blog enough to know your writing shines. (You'll say, "You were right," one day to me, and I won't even reply, "Tole ya so!" :)

Doing okay here. How bout you and them whack neighbors??

DAMN! I was going to mention Del in my post and completely forgot.

Here goes, exclusively for you: after my hobo mobster adventure, I get home and for the first time ever actually catch Del snooping around the mailboxes! He had like ten different bags of TRASH and his hands were all dirty. I bet he was stuffing it in mailboxes, after stealing mail.
Thankfully, he didn't get to ours before I stopped him.
But there was a letter from The Initiative. And he pretended like nothing's going on, as I took it out of our mailbox.

Angie- Thanks a million for mentioning my giveaway!

Bella, we must be crisscrossing each other in cyber space. I just read your Bella & the Mob adventure and transferred my comment to your comment from here over to your blog.

Glad to know someone's living a life truly stranger than fiction!

Happy Wednesday, Angie!! Thank you for the shout, much appreciated, my friend.

Oh, Paducah. My male mc went up against that power plant, you can see more of that in my sidebar under McMurry--visiting his site.

Thanks for all the great writing links! I think I'll put my email address on my blog as well. I was hesitant about it before, but I found your input reassuring. 'Preciate you :-)

Great writerly stuff. Not so much coacherly stuff. Oh well, see you soon. The mailbox stuffer can be caught with a trailcam. Great story about that from a sportsman website.

WOW! You're awesome! Thanks for including all of this. I'm back from class and now reading to tour some blogs

I agree about putting the e-mail address on your profile. Not a problem! And while I have everyone's attention? Can we lose the comment verification feature? Totally unnecessary (and a giant pain-in-the-ass).

Great links. It's like a treasure chest here, as always.

Oooh, Nanette's zinewriter blog looks so fabulous, all of it. I'm going to sit back (possibly with a glass of wine) this weekend and read more.

Thanks, Angie! :-)

Barbara, you're welcome.

My pleasure, Kimmi, and I'll visit that site on your MC soon. :)

LC, it's really been great. Sometimes blog owners will email me directly after I comment. I just hate that "no-reply" thing when I'm notified I have a new comment.

Sorry, Mr. Oren, we gots to writes what we knows. (The only coaching experience I have was when I was a senior in high school back in the stone age for a little pee-wee baseball team. Not pleasant. The parents were terrible.)

Go for it, Jenni. Hope you found a few nuggets.

LOL, Carrie. Tell us how ya really feel!

Thanks, Amy Sue Nathan. I love your blog.

Morgan, happy to help.

Enjoy a glass for me too, amy!

Day late and dollar short - again. I subbed yesterday and those kids were wild, I tell you. Sucked the life blood right out of me. Then I came home and we had a storm to end storms. Which may explain the wildness of the kids. Or maybe people are just not raising their kids right today. Anyway, what were we talking about?

Angie Ledbetter said...

Debbie, just sent you a teacher sympathy note. Completely hear ya!

Thanks so much for the Big Edits link. Totally need that right now as I'm (grudgingly) slogging through a third draft.
