Poetry & Poop

&

Yeah, you read the title right. Poetry & poop pretty much describes the polar opposites of my life...and most days, I have equal "servings" of both. The poops of life are, well, obviously the things you wanna scrape off the bottom of your shoe and forget about pronto. Here's a few examples:

  • Bad things happening with/to your kidlets
  • Ill loved ones you are incapable of helping get well
  • Writing rejections
  • Foiled plans and goals
  • Getting woken up from a nap
  • Burning supper
  • Things that disappoint or let ya down

Conversely, my life's held quite a bit of "poetry" lately. You know -- the things that bring you joy and fulfillment, a new and fresh perspective, unexpected gifts (material or otherwise), and prayers answered. Like these:

  • Writing acceptances
  • Hugs from kidlets and loved ones, or even a love letter
  • Perfect weather
  • A juicy book you can't put down
  • Finding a blog that really peels your apple
  • Connections made with friends
  • A new pair of shoes that don't hurt your feet and cost less than $15
  • A whole day off
  • Nappage to the sound of rain on a tin roof provided by your noise machine
  • Kidlet unhurt in an accident that totals his vehicle, insurance covers it without going up on premiums, and you find a good used vehicle to replace the heap
  • A recipe that turns out just right

See what I mean? Into every life, a little poop and poetry must fall. Let's just hope when the negatives rain, you have a dayum sturdy umbrella and remember that the sun will shine again soon and dry up the piles.

My favorite poetic moment of late is having a poem, Net Worth accepted at The Found Poetry Project. (Yeah, go check it out and maybe make one for yourself or to submit. And leave a comment while you're there if you've got time to kill. C'mon...it's not like broccoli or liver. You'll like it!)

And the poopy aspect? Well, let's just say I'm covered...literally. Behold the advent of my family's new favorite pair of shoes -- fondly referred to as The Poop Shoes; de rigueur for taking the puppy outside and/or cleaning the laundry room where he spends time til he's fully potty trained~~~

Sooooo, what's the biggest P & P aspects of your life right now?

This is a great post!
I tend not to worry much about things that come along. My poop I guess would be this damn nasal infection I can't seem to shake.
My poetry? The good books my husband got for me and some lovely compliments I've been getting;)

And I've been meaning to ask you, do you post date your posts or do you really get up this early?

Your title is a poem in its own right!
Poop and Poetry, Poop and Petry, Poop and Poetry...I can see myself chanting this refrain for the rest of the day....Thanks....

Bella, hope your sinuses clear up soon, and congrats on a great blog. Hope it leads ya into other writing. :) About my posts...um, no, I don't usually get up quite that early. I pre-post the day before.

Jinksy, please notify me by email when your poem of same name appears at your blog or elsewhere. :) Here's another ear worm for ya: Poopery and Poetry.

I can relate to many on your list, so I won't repeat them, but you did get me to thinking about this. I hope my blog pees your apple from time to time. ?

Angie, I stopped by via Kat's blog. And I'm so glad I did! Now I've got a cool new writerly poetry website to visit periodically *and* I'm ruminating on all the poetry in my life (last week it was all poop, due to sickness).

Your blog peels my apples. I'll be back. :-)

I've already visited your lovely poem. And nappage is always good - always.

I love your blog titles. I think my life has more poetry than poop right now. It's peaceful and I'm pretty content and most of my recipes have been turning out without any disasters. But then, I did have to endure that painful jury duty rejection this past week. I guess a little poop did fall into my life lately.

Poop - weight loss and health. GRRR on that front.

Poetry - my daughter, my writing, my awesome, supportive family.

Congrats on the poem! Well done, you!

I've got P & P. I live by a huge expanse of open beach and ocean and marsh but my little abode is falling apart and I am far from most family and friends. But, I've got my work that I love (OCEAN Magazine) and hmmm . . . so much to do that I can't do much of anything else anyway!

Great poem! Love those poopy shoes and the reminder of standing in my own pair (polka-dotted boots) just a year ago waiting for our puppy to poop. The poetry side of that is the boots now get used for walks in the snow with an independent dog.

hmmm for me I would say that my poop is always the dishes... it's like a never ending stream of... well... you know...

and the poetry would be the first ever finished book!

Poop first - still miss the 2 dogs we lost last year. Grief hangs out, interrupts our conversations now and then, sometimes jumps out and goes BOO! So kind of miss some poop.

Poetry - the kick and excitement I get when I'm deep into writing something.

I'm stealing, "really peels your apples."

Hey no fair, I get into trouble if I peel my apples. Here's to the poop being followed closely by a rainstorm to wash it all away to be followed by a day like we had in BR today.

Mine our similar to yours, but for poetry, I have to add the sun going down behind the mountains. I'm blessed to have beautiful views from my CO home...they always make me pause at sundown, especially.

Thanks, Giddy (Jenni) and the very same to you!

2nd Cup, your blog def peels my apple. :)

You are da bomb, Kathryn. More poetry and less poop to ya.

Amy, thanks for dropping in. I'll be by your place shortly.

Thanks, Michelle. Hope it's a poop-free day and coming week for you.

Debbie, love my nappage. Hoping to get one today in between taking my Mom to the casino and writer's group meeting tonight. :)

JyLnC, so glad your life's poetic at the moment mostly.

Thanky, Melissa. (Excited about starting your February Just Write Challenge!)

Diane (OCEAN mag), you're living the dream, girl. Congrats. Wish I lived closer so we could man a fix-it party for your beach crib. :)

Wish I'd thought of cool boots, Deb S. LOL

Jamie, yeah, I know about dem perpetual dirty dishes. Congrats on the book!!

You're welcome to it, Carrie girl. :)

Amen, Oren. It was beautiful yesterday here. Enjoyed quite a bit of time outside. Apple-peeling allowed here any time!

Anita, love the poetry of sunsets.

I had a poopy day yesterday. Did my taxes and I owe the feds - more money than what's currently in the bank. Oh, well, maybe today will be filled with poetry!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Eww, Andrea, hope you get a month of poetry after that mega-load of poop!

patresa hartman said...
