Rearranging the Furniture

Do you constantly change the furniture and looks of your blog home? If so, to what results? Being fairly new to the blogging game, I have to ask: "Is this gonna be a constant phenomenon, or is it just the nature of settling into a good routine that I feel changes need to be made from time to time?" Of course, there's a good possibility that I just like changing things up to keep from getting stale. So, help me Blogosphere friends, and tell me if you like to make changes to your schedules, features, routines, "furniture" too...or is it just me?

"Way back" in September, I shared plans for what my Gumbo Writer posts would be about according to the days of the week: http://angie-ledbetter.blogspot.com/2008/09/hear-ye-hear-ye-order-in-blog.html , and now I'm already switching things up.

And now for the new format...

  • Mondays - Remain the same. Tout Le Monde is a hodgepodge of whateverness.
  • Tuesdays - Featured yummy recipes and pics.
  • Wednesdays - Continuation of Wednesday Writings. (I like this in the middle of the week.)
  • Thursdays - Sorta still The Floor is Open, as I like to pick your brains and vice versa, but I'll also sometimes be taking juicy recent comments left by dear bloggy friends to explore more in depth.
  • Fridays - TGIFs will be devoted to the new Ledbetter Lunacy bad drawings and stories of my crazy family life.
  • Saturdays - I'll continue shining the Gumbo Writer spotlight on various impressive, funny, weird, or interesting blogs, people, websites, events, etc.
  • Sundays - Politically Incorrect Kartoons (PIK) and humor, or other things that make me laugh.out.loud. Because it's good for ya!

If you have a favorite day o' the week here at GW, please let me know. I'm doing scientifical researchery and experimentalation on what you like to see/read. :)

Now, for a question that sorta fits in: if you were the lucky recipient of a free blog makeover from a famous interior decorator or artist, who would you pick and why?
{PS I put something brand new on the blog. The first one to find it and put it in a comment will get a prize snail mailed all the way from Louisiana to you somewhere in the continental US.}

Moving furniture is not one of my favorite activities. This usually turns into a major project that gets out of hand real quick. I just enjoy reading other peoples ideas and connecting my simple country mindset to them. Enjoying the blogs.

I'm as consistent as the East Coast weather in mid-March, Ang. And that ain't too consistent. :))

I try to keep one thing consistent - the format should pertain to writing. Okay, two things - I try to post every week day. Now and then I'll toss something in there just for fun, or I'll comment on something that gets my Irish up.

I think your plan is a good one. :)

Morning, Oren, and thank you.

Lori, thanks, and I enjoy your mostly-writing posts. Hope your "weather" is good over there.

Hmmm- did you add the counter and say nice folks who drop by? I like that.
I have no real order to mine except to keep it about inspiring the writer and then show my own good and bad progress and maybe do a review now and then.
I like your Weds column best but do enjoy it all the days!
Somedays I write what my heart tells me to that morning--and go with it!

I think you added Mr Al. E Gator at the bottom?
I like the Wednesday posts too. Love you blog - there is always something interesting.

Keeping to a weekly schedule is great - you're guaranteed variety and it keeps you challenged. I'm so new to blogging I'm still trying to find my direction. Maybe if I added structure it would help! But then again....

Angie Ledbetter said...

Terri, nope, the counter's not new, but good try! "Going with the flow" while blogging seems a popular method. I guess I'm afraid I'd flow off somewhere weird if I didn't have some sort of organization. LOL

*DING DING DING* Linda, you're the winner! (I'll be over to your place to collect your email addy shortly.) And thanks for the good words.

embee, hear ya! I kinda did freestyle when I started a while ago, then added the structure. It helps my old mind...but you don't have that problem!

Oh man. You are the second person I read regularly who has this "what's different" contest going. I don't know! I never know. Yesterday I asked another person I read regularly when she had gotten her new header only to find out it is the same one she has always had. I am not very observant!

Loving the alligator and the caption under it. I am a person who constantly changes everything from my furniture, kitchen cubbards, my hair, and yes...my blogspot and/or myspace layouts. I seem to get bored most of the time with the same ole/same ole.

I don't know who I would want to design my blogspot...I have seen so many nice ones since I started blogging.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Debbie, head stays in a dark place lots of times? :) But you ARE an excellent observer of human nature!

Ang, I think I'd pick Christian from last season's Project Runway to do mine. LOL

I would have a hard time choosing just one favorite day of your blog ... I enjoy all of them and you give us enough variety to keep us coming back for more. :)

For my blog ... I find a certain amount of comfort in consistency ... both with my content and the look of the blog. However, too much of it ... especially with content ... restricts creativity ... so there has to be a balance, I suppose. I do find that when I visit other blogs and see something "cool" ... I usually have to figure out how to put it on my site (imitation is the best form of flattery).

If I could choose anyone to design my blog, I'd choose Dale Chihuly. His work is so beautiful. Here's his link if you'd like to see his stuff:

Have a great day!

Hi Angie, loves the feel of your blog! I'm too scared to change mine as I don't know how really, yikes, so I guess it'll have to stay the boring same... Your colors and all are very nice--very comfy furniture here!!

Kathryn Magendie said...

Haw I would have lost - I thought it wsa the black square thingees when they've prolly been there since day one...huhn.

I change my colors every so often on the MSN blog (http://kathrynmagendie.spaces.live.com/) but don't know how to change backgrounds other than the templates they show....how'd you get your what's cookin to work?

Carrie Wilson Link said...

I admire your discipline! Me? I just write what/when the mood strikes! Got lots of areas of my life that are all programmed, my blog is one place I let go!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Small, what nice comments! And I couldn't agree more with this: imitation is the best form of flattery. Now, I'm going to look at that designer's work, so thanks for the link. (PS I enjoy your green tips.)

Aww, Kim, thanks. HEY, blog gang...check out Kim's soon-to-be released book info. and her blog!

Howdy, my mountain friend, Kathryn. It was easy getting the What's Cookin' background up. I just surfed and picked the one I liked at that blog background site listed on the top left of this page, the cutest blog, or something.

Carrie, everyone should have an area that allows us to CUT LOOSE...otherwise, we turn into boring lumps, or might explode. I do that with poetry, Treated Text, and venting on my friends. LOL

I like to move my blog furniture seasonally. And I'm constantly finding cute accessories that may be added daily.

My blog is still new so I haven't redecorated yet, though I'm liking the minimalism I've got going now. And staying on topic is already a challenge, but I'm trying to make myself. Your blog always feels fun and inviting when I visit, so try not to change too much!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Barbara, I always find your blog interesting without it making my eyes go crazy.

Rachel, minimalism is good and never gets old. I promise not to change too much here. And thanks, FUN & INVITING are my some of my main goals.

Good Lourd I am ALWAYS changing my blog.
Postcards Debbie calls me Sybil.
My house, not so much, I have things just the way I love them and tend to leave it that way.
I like things very comfortable and homey.
Not trashy and cluttered, warm and inviting.

I was thinking as I was looking around here, I think you should have a label cloud.
Very cool and easy to install and you are a very good labeler so you might as well include it as part of your "decor."

Ok, now, if I were to win a home makeover, I would choose Paula Dean to do it.

I think my furniture will stay probably about the same - not a whole lot of room for other options.

I, too, am thinking of changing up how my blog looks. It's been the same for a few years now and I'd like to do somethign different.

I'm tempted to say "Salvador Dali", but I think I'd go with a painter by the name of Scott Prior, who is a realist. Very superb, by the way. If you've never seen his stuff, you should check it out. "Nanny And Rose" is a particular favorite of mine.

I'd have Carolina Herrera drape by blog is beautiful fabric that makes me look skinny.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Mrs. Parks, my "real" house sounds like yours, but with little spots of clutter and writer woman stacks and such. Thanks for the label cloud tip (whatever the heck that is, but I promise to research. Sounds nifty).

Paula Dean? Hmm, she'd be great in the kitchen, but don't know how she'd handle the other rooms! :)

Jim/Suldog, welcome back after a long jury duty! We missed ya. I'll look up work by Mr. Prior (and hope you ain't yankin' my chain), but your blog home is wayyyyy to organized to benefit from a Dali do-over.

LOL, Wendy, but you're already thin! I like that designer, although I'll probably never ever own anything of that caliber.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Melissa, how'd I miss your comment? Doh! It sure is fun tampering with, umm, redesigning the ol' bloggy sometimes. Go for it! Promise it involves no back strain...and NO STAIRS!

I like it all...keep it up!

Will do, and thanks, Colby!
