October 12, 2008 Weekly Forecast

Aren't these gorgeous? I can't decide if the roses have been tinkered with using bright pigment-filled water to grow them, or if they've been doctored in photo shop, or some other mad scientist procedure. Whatever caused them to appear in the jpeg as they do, I like the final product.

As far as I can tell, I've got a good week ahead and everyone I care about is doing well, or at least holding their own. There are no odious chores hanging over my head, nothing to dread, and the sky's the limit on what I want to accomplish. Now, we all know Life has a way of throwing big fat monkey wrenches into the cogs of our plans, but for right now, it's clear skies ahead.

Looking at these beyond-bright flowers and trying to figure out if they are some sort of rare but real hybrid, or if they've been manipulated in some way, made me think on this:

How much of what I see and hear (especially from "reliable" sources such as the mainstream media), do I take at face value?

I'm a pretty skeptical person who loves to research and haunt snopes.com, so I don't think I'm too gullible, but I'd love to see your answers to the question. So feel free to express those opinions. And if you have examples or links to articles on the topic; all the better.

Hope your Sunday and week ahead are everything you hope for. I'll be dropping by your blog homes, so have the coffee pot and chat ready!

I take nearly nothing at face value. I do not trust the media. I do not trust the first thing I see on the Internet or in forwarded emails. I research before I speak on such topics as politics, news articles, etc. Cuz in this day and age of ambush interviews in the media, I find we also treat each other that way in our personal discussions especially when we differ on opinions.

Oh, I thought those were edible roses - made with icing or something with sprinkles of sugar...hmmm, I must be hungry *laugh* and for something sweet!

I am a big cynic and have to watch my "negativity" -- the bad part is, it's affected my religious views to where I question it all to the point of unbelief about things I used to believe just because I was told by someone they were true....with very little to "proove" otherwise - and I could go on and on, but I will stop here and Tommy and I are going to the SMoky MOuntain Parkway, where I find my god there...in nature!

I'm on the same page with you. If someone sends me something that "alarms" me, I go straight to Snopes.com and typically is comes up as a big FALSE! Sadly, a lot of people don't take the time to do the investigative homework and simply hit the forward key. I especially love people that cite the bible and what is wrong and right and they have never even opened a bible!! Re: the multi-colored roses...here ya go!

Kat friend, I'm praying some perfect Proof floats down to meet you on your visit to nature today. ;)

Thanks, PaperWhisperer! Nice to know I was "half fast" right on my dye guess for the flowers.

I'm in sync with you. Should be a good week with less obligations on my part.

Roses to you, good Dad Travis! Hope you've recovered from your "fun" run by now. ;)

I use magic dust to make the flowers look like this. I guess PW will bust this bubble also.

That rose picture is so cool! And I am a huge believer in snopes...I despise crazy emails that run rampant saying things and my rule is that I don't believe anything until there's proof, lol!

Colby, I love me some snopes too.

Hmm-- I missed this post yesterday! I left a comment on today's but don't see it so maybe am clicking away too fast!
I don't take much at face value--not sure it that is sad or what but guess I don't trust much until I know for sure!

TT, better safe than sorry! And I hate when I forward bogus urban legend junk on to others, so it's just best to check. ;)

Oh how I just can not stand to receive forwarded e-mails that have not been checked out through Snopes! Especially those dealing with people missing, etc.!

To me "if in doubt always check it out!" And I mean thoroughly! Plus do it with anything and everything you have available and then some.
Of course for me I do tend to overdo it (or at least that is what people tell me)! ;0) But hey I like to know the truth, period!

Oh well, I think it is time for some more coffee. Enjoy your evening.
