Athletic Supporter

Okay, when you read today's blog entry title, which came to mind?

That's a little T.G.I.F. treat for all you bloggers and friends of bloggers out there! Since I reserve Fridays for "Family Life & Stuff" posts, today it's all about being a team supporter. My sons' high school homecoming game is tonight, so everyone's excited. And, yeah, I'll be hawking $1 raffle ticket chances on $500 or a flat screen TV, but it'll still be fun.

I *may* even put on the Wolfie! costume. My kids will be sooooooooo so so so pleased. LOL. {See last photo. Note lovely expression. Sorry you can't see the humongous wolf slippers on my feet and gigantor green & white clappers!}

Speaking of football, if you haven't had the full tailgating experience (we do it for high school and college games here), you have no idea of the fun you're missing. LSU fans (Geaux Tigers!) have the reputation of being the #1 tailgating enthusiasts, so rather than explain it, here are a few pics from last weekend's game, courtesy of local talk radio station WJBO 1150 AM ~~

See all those purple and gold shirts filling the stadium? Imagine them all 10-24 hours before kickoff covering every square inch of the LSU campus, cooking, eating, drinking and making merry. Now you have a more accurate mental picture of true athletic supporters. If you want even more tailgating photos, surf here: http://www.wjbo.com/cc-common/gallery/globalphotos.html?section=lsu

As for me, I'm minor league with my thrown-together mascot costumes. But, durn, it's still a hoot, and worth every Saturday morning case of "wolf throat" I get from screaming at the games. Go Wolves!
*Man, wish I didn't care so much about what other people think of me.* ;o)

Great costume. Isn't part of our job description as a parent to embarass our kids? They will appreciate later when they do the same thing to their kids. Have a great time and when you see Julie, give her a hug for me. Cat will see her today.

Angie speaks the tru't! WHen I lived in BR, I lived near LSU and yeehowdy! We couldn't leave our house an hour or so before and two hours or so after the LSU home games....and we could hear the cheers - and stomps - when LSU did goooodddd....the ground shook!

LSU fans are rabid...yeah....!

Wow, you're such a sport of a mom. We don't do football games as a family, I think we're missing out!

How cool! Have you even donned the Wolfie costume before? My first job was dressing as Geoffrey Giraffe for Toys R Us, and I loved it! You should totally do it if you get the chance. :)

PS. Love the picture of you!

About 15 years ago, I attended an LSU Homecoming with my brother and his aging former fraternity brothers. We actually stayed in his old house, Phi Delta Theta. I am still recovering from that night. I HAD A KICK IN THE ASS!! L.S.U. fans are the BEST!! And you look absolutely ADORABLE in that last photo, however, NOT VERY FIERCE! hahaha Happy Friday! Geaux Tigers! Geaux Gumbo! Oren...KEEP IT DOWN! I sooo need my beauty sleep!

Being an 'athletic supporter' is totally worth the 'wolf throat'! Getting to wear the wolf head at games and embarass the kids - PRICELESS!!! Cher

Tailgating for high school games? That's news to me! Sounds like a fun night! And LOVED the costume--you must be one cool mom to wear it!!

I must admit I thought of the underwear when I read the title. In fact it took me a minute to even understand what the mascot had to do with it. Than I had that moment when I was like 'oh, duh'. (I don't know why I'm admitting this) What does that say about me? Anyway, love the costume. I say, the more often we embarrass our children, the better. It means we're doing a great job. Keep it up.

Oren, I don't know about other parents, but it was certainly in MY copy of the instruction manual. hehe.

They don't call it Death Valley (or is that "deaf") for nuttin', hunh, Kat?

Oh, Pink, you gotta try it once. Nothing like that mob mania which takes over a stadium. ;)

Janna, I've never put on the costumes for employment, but I used to do it quite often "just because" and go to the kids' campus or in carpool. LOL I think I'm too old to hold a Geoffrey neck up for long.

PW....that trip through the LSU frat house explains so much. *grin*

Barbara, it's almost Halloween, so you'll have a legitimate excuse to wear whatever costume you'd like. I have several Witchy-Poo ones you could borrow. One comes with a leopard print pointed hat!

Thanks, Cheryl. It really is fun.

Oh, yeah, Terri. The cookers, campers and other stuff will be set up at the high school as soon as they dismiss at 2:30. BTW, the other parents love that I wear these terrible costumes. They point me out and say, "See? At least I don't do THAT to you!" LOLOL

Kasie, you got dat right. It's part of my Costume Therapy plan to help my children become more immune to peer pressure, caring what others think of them, and just in general, the importance of living life fully...no matter what. ;)

Ah, high school and college football. Sadly, I haven't watched any games yet this year, mostly because the college games were on PPV and I didn't want to pay $30 to watch them.

LOVE the costume!

Angie Ledbetter said...

Alyssa, there are other dogs that get "done up" for the games too. It's wild.

Thank you, Melissa. Don't think I'd spend $30 either...I'm tight!

I love high school football! I've only made it to one game before I was struck down with the plague (re: cold).

Hopefully, I'll get better before the season closes. I'll be in Hawk gear, though, not Wolf paraphernalia.

Angie Ledbetter said...

Kate, I'd dearly love to see a hawk costume! Do you have the talons and beak?? Get well soon so you can go scream and get Hawk Throat! ;)

Thanks, 6double. Yours is going to be an interesting blog too.

Travis...what's a husker? (I thought it was something you wrapped tamales in.) ;)
