Wednesday Writings

Good morning, and thanks for visiting. It's a fine day to begin a blog. Here in Louisiana, we have clear skies between Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, and we're hoping it stays that way for a long time!
Wednesdays, I'm going to dedicate blog posts to the business and fun of writing. No matter what genre or type you do, or even if you're a dabbler or wannabe, it's fun and inspiring to just yap about the craft. So, send me a question or post a comment, and let's chew the writing fat. If you want an extra set of eyeballs to scan a piece of something you're working on, post it!
Question o' the day: Why are you a writer? Is it therapy, a creative outlet, self-expression, fame and fortune, reaching/teaching, or just a way to stay in touch? If you're looking for a way to get those fingers moving today, you might enjoy surfing here:
Now, promise yourself you'll spend 15/30/60 minutes getting in some writing today. It's good for the soul...and it helps keep Momma sane.
Until tomorrow, write on!

all of the above *laughing*

If I don't write, I go insane and am depressed and crabby and bitchy and weird - okay, sometimes I'm those things even when writing (teehee)

love the new blog!!!

Herm- good question. I write because there is a story in my head, and if I don't get it down on paper, the voices in my head may just drive me crazy. Did that sound schizophrenic at all?

Great start. I write to learn another way to get a message across. Spoken word works pretty well but the written one rings kind of a special bell for me.

Kat, you got writer (with a capital W) down in your soul!

Thanks, Paper. And puh-lease keep me up on progress with your own book project.

Not crazy at all, Colby. All writers deal with the "crazy voices" that populate their heads. Those voices sometimes morph into great characters.

Oren, you always do a good job of getting your message across...backed up by a solid soul and actions!

What an inspiring post! I write as self-expression and also as an expression of worship. As for the writing every day, I'm working on that!

Thanks for the concilitory (I am a terrible speller, sorry!) comment you made on my post! It helps me not feel so much of an idiot :)

P.S. The reason I write...you already know that answer. "Two wrongs make me write."

Heidi, we're not idiots, just humans who have the good sense to laugh at ourselves. *grin*

Robin (aka Paper Whisperer) you crack me up. With your attitude and reasons for writing, you'll NEVER run out of fodder.

Glad to see you have your own blog!! Way easier to respond! Your twin story was too funny! Good thing he picked you again, huh?

Hey, Terri. Yep, good thing! ;)

I write because if I didn't, I'd be a bear to be around. And I AM a bear to be around when I don't write. Ask my hubby. ;-)

Seriously, though, my love of reading gave me a love of writing. It was a natural thing to sit down at that old manual typewriter and start clacking away.

MM: I hear ya! I feel like the world's off its axis when I haven't written in a few days.

Reading is a great thing too. Just having completed a 9-part editor interview series for Rose & Thorn (check it out if ya get a chance), many of the journal/zine editors said that was their #1 recommendation to writers and poets: Read, read, read!

Hmm; I thought having a blog would help me write more, but I find that being a copy editor (college texts) seems to sap the creativity. When my daughter was small, I attended many creative writing groups (Amherst Artists and Writers-led), and was very, what?, writerly. But not so much now.
