In case you're not familiar with our famous Saints chant, here it is in full~~
"Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Who dat? Who dat?"
Wikipedia says the chant originated in minstrel shows and vaudeville acts of the late 1800s and was then taken up by jazz and big band performers in the 1920s and 30s. Staged minstrel skits had frightened black people saying "who dat" when they encountered a ghost...then the "who dat"..."who dat say who dat"...skit would play itself out. Even the Marx Brothers had a "who dat" routine.
You can hear my #1 favorite singer Aaron Neville (backed by Saints team members) singing a combo of Who Dat and When the Saints Go Marching In on GrooveShark.
So if you missed the Saints/Vikings game last night, you missed a real nail-biter and a chance to have your ears ringing with Who Dat?! The Super Dome was more packed (71,000+) than it was when it housed Katrina refugees. The blizzard of confetti at game's end was something never before seen, and Saints fans were frenzied!
Yeah...we're now on the way to the Super Bowl...AAIEYYYYEEEEE...to face off with native son Peyton Manning's Colt's!
In overtime, the Saints won the toss allowing kicker Garrett Hartley to make a 40-yard field goal which triggered a stupendous all-night party in the City of New Orleans. And the party will continue through Feb. 7 when the Saints go marching in to Miami!
Saints head coach Sean Payton said, "This is for everybody in this city. This stadium used to have holes in it, and used to be wet. It's not wet anymore. This is for the city of New Orleans." QB Drew Brees gave Favre due respect. ""He's a warrior, he always has been, I remember watching him in middle school. He battled, he is a competitor and he fought to the end, their entire team did. It was a hard fought battle I am just glad we came out on top in the end."
So, say it with me friends~~~WHO DAT?!

I've been a Saints fan from the age of 10 (a long time in other words). I remember when the fans wore paper bags over their heads. Not anymore! It is great to see them win it for the State and for New Orleans.
I give credit where it is due and the Vikings fought hard but the Saints have been fighting to get here for decades.
WHO DAT!
Congratulations to all y'all from the Lone Star State. While it was tough to watch the sudden and tragic demise of our Cowboys this year, I couldn't be happier for our southern neighbors to enjoy this day "in the sun". Make the most of it, chere! EFH
WHO DAT?!!!
LOL, it's a good feeling, huh, Angie?
At the end of the game, one of the announcers even said something to the effect of--
Never has a football team been so tied to the city it's in, this is a win for the city of New Orleans, for the state of Louisiana.
And it is. It's a great feeling. I guarantee everyone in the state of LA woke up this morning feeling SUPER! ;) I know it made it easier to get out of bed this Monday morning for me.
WHO DAT?!!!
I want you to know that because of this post, I'm officially rooting for the Saints at the Super Bowl! Yay!
again...
WHO DAT?!!!
:)
Jenn's Blogdom :)
Congrats, Ang! Now you get to plan the mother of all SuperBowl parties! :-)
It's the feel good story of the year. Way to go, Saints! Now, America must decide between rooting for a team representing one of America's most exciting cities and a team representing one of its most boring.
Guess which is which?
Go Saints! Go New Orleans!
It was an awesome game. I picked the Saints to go the Superbowl (sorry Broncos) before the season started so I'm excited. Can't wait for the final game!
I too was helping care for my Father who has Alzheimer's. He is now in a nursing home. My blog is about our journey with him.
I have to follow you and the recipes will be a bonus!
My husband had a business trip (back three years ago when companies paid for business trips) to your wonderful state. We stayed down on the French Quarter, after Katrina. I had heard so many horrible stories, I was kind of concerned about going...I have never enjoyed a trip anywhere as much as I did going to New Orleans!! Our trip was not long enough to see all there is to see. Plus it rained, and everything closed up. We understand how seriously you guys take the rain! I want to go back!! The people were WONDERFUL and so grateful for us coming and spending money. The food, oh the food!! THEE BEST! I bought earrings and a necklace of the flor de lei and wear it often in support and out of loving memories. They told us it was the new symbol of rebirth. we are betting on the Saints in the Superbowl! WHO DAT!!!!
Congrats to you and those Saints of yours!
Way to go, Saints!
Go Saints!
Angie, I watched every minute and cheered from way over here in FL. They were mean fightin' machines! Yeah, Saints!
I totally misread this and assumed that you WEREN'T a Saints fan (hence the previous confusing comment that I posted earlier...)! Ah, what a foible! So here's an edited comment... You know... one that makes sense. haha
You know, I'm not much of a football watcher, and none of the teams that I do watch have even come close to the Super Bowl (or Stanley Cup). I can imagine, however, how wonderful it must be to have your team go to the ultimate tournament. Congrats! :)
In other news, you should head on over to my blog. I've given you an award! :)
A slightly grudging congrats. After having their best year ever, our Eagles made a pathetic showing in the playoffs.
Heed the voice of experience. Enjoy the euphoria of that first Super Bowl season for perennial underdogs. Once they become a "team to watch" it is never quite the same.
I'm not a football fan at all, but you made this game sound not only fun, but life affirming. :-)
Great post! So exciting for so many reasons.
Yeah, you're right, cher! What a great game it was! Who Dat, We Dat, Geaux Saints! Black and Gold Superbowl!
Angie, please stop over to my blog for a sweet surprise...
Big-Time congratulations, Angie! The Saints going to the Superbowl! This Patriots fan will certainly be rooting for them!
LOL You funny girl! Haven't seen you around in a while. Thanks for visiting.

i know next to nothing about your type of football since we have a different version in Europe, but many congratulations & good luck :)
Well, you KNOW the Links were cheering for the 'Aints!
Though my own Steelers didn't make it, I'm rooting for the Saints, Angie. They be admired all over the place. :))
Love all your comments! Thanks for pulling for our beloved Saints!!
WHO DAT?! :D
Best of luck to the Saints. Drew Brees is a hometown boy here for us. We will be cheering for you!
No more Aints!
WOOT WOOT!
Better watch out - the NFL will fine you for using WHO DAT!? ha ha!
Mississippi is in a wonderful uproar about The Saints too. I've never seen so many black and gold shirts and flags in all my life. I don't care if they win or lose the superbowl...nobody can ever describe what The Saints have done for the morale boost they've given to the Gulf Coast. (of course it will be even better if they win!!)
